Zelman Symphony Orchestra - Shostakovich 13 - Babi Yar

Experience the delights of the Elena Kats-Chernin Flute Concerto and Shostakovich’s darkly evocative Symphony No.13, Babi Yar.

Yevgeny Yevtushenko's famous poem, Babi Yar, exposed the massacres by the Nazis of over 110,000 people at Babi Yar, near Kiev, during WWII. It denounced anti-Semitism and protested against the then Soviet Government's refusal to build a memorial. Dmitri Shostakovich set this poem to music in his 13th Symphony, Babi Yar, which will be performed by bass-baritone Adrian Tamburini accompanied by a large orchestra and a 200-voice male chorus. It will be the centrepiece of this concert commemorating the 75th anniversary of these horrendous events at Babi Yar.

The strongly emotive yet delightfully melodic Elena Kats-Chernin Flute Concerto, Night and Now, references Elena's early years in Soviet-era Russia. It was composed for leading Australian flautist Sally Walker, and premiered in Victoria by Zelman Symphony to great acclaim in 2015. Zelman Symphony is proud to be able to bring this beautiful work to the Hamer Hall stage.

8:00pm 8:00pm

Latitude 37

Named the “Father of Musick” by the King of England, William Lawes (1602-1645) stands as one of the most inventive English composers of the 17th century. Period instrument specialists Latitude 37 are joined by triple harpist Hannah Lane and theorbo player Nick Pollock to present some of Lawes’ most exquisite and yet rarely performed works in this concert of Lawes’ Harp Consorts.

Featuring a unique combination of harp, bass viol, violin and theorbo, Lawes’ works for this blend of instruments results a wonderful musical interplay between these unusual instruments. The two plucked and two bowed instruments together create a special soundscape, with each instrument having its own independent part in a delicately balanced texture.

Latitude 37 is an exciting baroque trio whose members were drawn together by their passion for historically informed performance of 17th and 18th century music. The special combination of baroque violin, viola da gamba and harpsichord opens up a wealth of repertoire that is rarely explored by other Australian ensembles.

Zelman Symphony Orchestra - Hoang's Piano Concerto Concert

  • Melbourne Recital Centre, Elisabeth Murdoch Hall (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

This concert features Hoang Pham, the 2013 ABC Young Performer of the Year, playing two famous piano works in the one concert at the request of his faithful supporters. Following his electric performances of the Emperor Concerto and Tchaikovsky's first Piano Concerto with us, Hoang invited Zelman Symphony to accompany him at Melbourne Recital Centre - we agreed with alacrity!  Thanks Hoang!

The concert opens with Brahms' Academic Festival Overture written in 1880 to thank the University of Breslau for giving him an honorary doctorate degree.  It is a fun-filled series of student drinking songs including the triumphant finale 'Gaudeamus igitur'.

Hoang will then climb the heights of Rachmaninov's Rhapsody on a Theme by Paganini - the mere mention of Paganini ensures fireworks and a brilliant performance.

Then it is back to Brahms for his well-loved Piano Concerto No 1, a brilliant symphonic-like piano concerto which will have you on the edge of your seats.

Your Time Matters - Networking With A Twist

Your Time Matters “Networking With A Twist” Events (currently held in Brighton and launching in Kew -19 July) are designed to:
• Create relevant meaningful conversations that lead to opportunities
• Deliberately match you with like-minded business owners that can help you achieve your networking goals
• Ensure you gain maximum value from the time and money you invest in networking

Why is it called “Networking with a Twist”?
Because we’re different.
Have you ever gone a networking event and been:-
• Monopolised by someone who was trying to make a sale?
• Interrupted every time you found someone worth listening to by the ‘agenda’?
• Inundated with business cards… most of them meaningless and irrelevant?
• Frustrated because you didn’t get to talk to anyone relevant?
• Awkward and embarrassed because you didn’t know anyone and didn’t want to interrupt?
We have… and we hate it! As business owners ourselves, we know time is a scarce and non-renewable resource. Yet networks are critical if we are to gain access to the people, services, products, and ideas we need. That’s why we designed a different type of networking event that delivers maximum value in minimum time and makes sure you aren’t standing on your own.

In addition to ample opportunity for conversation during open networking and table conversations, this month our valuable -
BONUS insight :    "Business Ownership is not a Life Sentence …you can GET OUT”
How Saleable is your Business? Is your Business Ready to Sell at a moment’s notice?
Building a Business into an Asset may result in it possibly being the largest asset you'll ever own, if not second after your home. So NOT “Starting with the End in Mind” (regardless of how old it is) when you’re ready can result in all the blood, sweat, tears, time and money you’ve invested resulting in close to nothing!
Knowing how to build a business that’s worthy, understanding where its value lies, finding a way to GET OUT as profitably and seamlessly as possible, means you need to think about what needs to be done and how to do it
You will then be able to
• define what it means to have a saleable and profitable business
• identify the key attributes a buyer will look for
• determine your business strengths and the advice you will need

Our speaker
Denise Hall is an ex-Business Owner turned Business Value Analyst, Exit Strategist and Broker to Business Owners of Australia. She knows how to play the "Finish Unfinished Business" game like no other.
She has sold businesses on behalf of other Business Owners around Australia in all shapes and sizes. Types range from 1 person to many people, from $10,000 to $10mil turnover.

Barbaresco Wine Dinner with Luisa Rocca of Azienda Agricola Bruno Rocca

On Tuesday 8th August, Centonove would like to invite you for dinner with one of Italy's finest wine estates Bruno Rocca.

The night will be guided by Luisa Rocca, daughter of Bruno who alongside her brother Francesco is the next generation of this famed estate.

The dinner will feature newly arrived releases of:

  • 2015 Dolectto d’Alba
  • 2014 Barbera d’Alba
  • 2015 Nebbiolo Langhe "Fralu"
  • 2013 Barbaresco "Rabaja"
  • 2014 Barbaresco

The wines will feature alongside a traditional, Piedmont styled menu from chef Patrick Fletcher, who recently spent two weeks near Alba cooking and eating regional cuisine.

The night will include a 5 course menu with matching wines for $145 per person. Dinner will begin from 7pm.

Bookings will be extremely limited due to the intimate nature of the event.

For reservations email info@centonove.com.au or call Centonove 9817 6468.

The Bruno Rocca Estate
Bruno Rocca’s father Francesco, and his wife Maria Adelaide purchased a vineyard in Rabajà and moved there from the centre of Barbaresco. This marked the beginning, in particular for Bruno, who from a very early age began to view the grapes as the true expression of the land. In 1978 Bruno decided to carve out a new direction, rather than selling the grapes to large barbaresco producers, Bruno began to sell bottled wine on the Italian and world stage. The philosophy of wine as the natural expression of the Barbaresco territory was widely appreciated, and with the estate’s gradual growth came the purchase of new plots of land and the expansion of the cellar, which continues to today with Bruno’s children Francesco and Luisa now both closely involved in all aspects of the wine production and sales. The Bruno Rocca company philosophy is clear, as Rocca himself affirms: Wine is the mirror and soul of the ground, and the territory, if protected and defended, it will never let you down.

Blow The Man Down: Hue Blanes and Oliver Mann

Blow The Man Down: Hue Blanes and Oliver Mann

This is the debut performance of a collaborative original work by these two highly regarded, fascinating and famously hard to pin down young musicians, working together here for the first time.

Both are gifted composers and singers and despite their different musical pathways; Hue coming largely from a jazz base whilst Oliver has n classical and opera foundation; they are both known for their expansive and multilingual musical explorations, bending and exploring genres in new and beautiful ways.

This new song cycle sees Hue Blanes composing and on piano whilst Oliver Mann brings his rich and nuanced bass baritone. The show uses the traditional Lieder opera style to explore themes of loneliness, longing and the miraculous mundanity of being human. Hue’s deeply reflective perceptual gift for illuminating the everyday in his songs, combined with Oliver’s heartfelt and fully alive singing, makes for a show that is a rare and shining thing; disturbing in the best way, funny and tragic.

Iaki Vallejo

Iaki Vallejo is a Colombian singer who is based in Melbourne. She grew up in an environment where loud music and dance never seemed to ever despair it occupants. Iaki marries Colombian, South American and African rhythms together, creating an international sound which blends funk, jazz, and Latin styles–horns, bass, and guitars with tambora, marimba, conunos, kalimba (traditional percussion) and melodies.

Iaki’s ambition is to blend these energetic forms, cultures and traditions together, in order to popularise the roots of her musical formation whilst creating a new exciting sound. She realised that this can only be achieved through the convergence of musicians from different parts of the word, such as Colombia, Chile, Cuba, Greece, USA, Africa and Australia.

YTM Networking with a Twist- KEW - Bonus Insight - Marketing

Why Do You Go To Networking Events?

Do you go to buy products and services from other business owners? - NO!
Do you go to sell your products and services to other business owners? - NO!

Networking is about building relationships, establishing valuable connections, and gaining knowledge so that you can create opportunities. It’s about starting conversations that you can continue outside the event and building trust. Networking events can and do lead to more business opportunities, partnerships, and sales, but that is not their primary purpose.

"The networking was brilliant- not only the idea but the tips and how to approach it with no ‘sales pitch’ or ‘elevator pitch’ was very refreshing”.
M.Dulberg, WebbyWeb Designs, 2016

Why “Networking with a Twist”?

Your Time Matters “Networking With A Twist” Events are designed to:

  • Create relevant meaningful conversations that lead to opportunities
  • Deliberately match you with like-minded business owners that can help you achieve your networking goals
  • Ensure you gain maximum value from the time and money you invest in networking
  • What Happens at a “Networking With A Twist” Event?
  • 2 hours of open networking and matched conversations giving you plenty of time to talk and listen to others
  • 2 x tables of 6-8 strategically matched, like-minded business owners to have timed discussions with (so no one monopolises the conversation)
  • YTM’s UNIQUE Conversation Starter cards to create meaningful discussions (great for improving conversation skills)
  • You learn more about yourself and your business as well as about others’
  • An informative and relevant speaker to provide ideas and guidance for your business
  • When you register, we’ll ask about your networking goals:-
  • People you’d like to meet
  • Partnerships you are looking for
  • Services or products you need
  • Complementary businesses etc.

This information enables us to introduce you to like-minded people when you arrive, and place you strategically at tables that give you the greatest opportunity to make connections with the people you are looking for.

“Your Time Matters’ events are about connecting, engaging, building relationships and seeking opportunities to grow yourself and your business… Not selling!”

Bookings are Essential and Close 24 Hours Prior to Event!

Why? - Because we take time to strategically match you with other guests at tables, and line up suitable introductions for when you arrive.
In addition to ample opportunity for conversation during open networking and table conversations, this month our valuable insight is:
Insight - Marketing Outside the Inbox – are you missing out?
How real world touchpoints can transform your customer’s journey, and boost your bottom line

You invest time at networking events, now how can you nurture those relationships?

Because online communication has become the "normal" , many businesses have forgotten the value of helpful and creative communication offline. If you can build real world touchpoints into your customer journey, you’ll immediately stand out for all the right reasons.

  • Our speaker will share her experience and philosophy plus share her 5 TOP TIPS on the importance of touchpoints.
  • You will take home lots of practical tips and ideas that are simple and affordable to implement.
  • Improve your approach as you discover
  • What you can do to stay top of mind
  • How to make yourself memorable
  • Ways to connect more meaningfully

Our speaker:- Viv Kane

Vivienne Kane is a passionate believer in the benefits of personal, hands on communication – whether it’s by phone, by post, face to face or through events. Phia

Phia

Phia is great for parents who once upon a time hung out in bandrooms and now just want to share good old-fashioned indie pop music with the whole family.

Her music is abound with luscious layers of harmonies, rambunctious vocal percussion and vivid pop sensibilities. Raw and affecting lyricism powerfully woven into the hypnotic sound of an instrument made of wood and metal and not much bigger than a postcard! The African kalimba became Phia’s instrument of choice and self-expression.

Recommended for all ages.
